True story: as a young adult, I was freshening up in the lounge area at school once when another young woman walked up to me and out of nowhere, said the most asinine comment ever (up to that point): “You have nice skin, but you would be really pretty if you had lighter brown eyes.”
*crickets*
I got still, turned from the mirror on this *&^$# and what I hope my stony glare communicated was this: “EXCUSE ME?!? Who are you and WHY do you think I give a %$#* about your opinion of my God-given eye color?!? If that’s what the Lord wanted me to have, AND THEY ALLOW ME TO SEE, I’m MORE than good with what I’ve got, F***YouVeryMuch!!!”
This choice that Tiny made is just disturbing to me on SO many levels. Aside from the high rate of complications and cases of permanent damage to the vision, what is this change communicating to their kids about accepting oneself and embracing individuality? Why was she not content with her own lovely brown shade and what will she say when her own kids want to ‘stunt like Momma’ and switch out their own eye shade/boob size/nose shape? Sickening and sad. Just….WHOA.
“T.I.’s wife’s eyes are now permanently “ice-gray,” thanks to a procedure she recently underwent. After rumors began to swirl about her mysterious new look, Tameka “Tiny” Harris took to Instagram yesterday (Oct. 24) to confirm that she has a new eye color. She thanked the doctor that performed the surgery:
I permanently changed my eye color with Brightocular and loving it! Thank you Dr. Montasser Menif for the amazing experience and for making my dream come true. I hated wearing contacts just for the color and it made my vision blurry. Blessed to say my vision is perfect after my ice-gray implants.
Special thanks to #Spencer Vessa for all that you’ve done to make the process happen. You’re amazing and thank you #faiza for your exceptional customer service.” (Vibe)
