*THE FOLLOWING COMMENTARY IS A READ OF THE ADULTS INVOLVED, NOT OF THE CHILD*
I simply don’t understand the Beygency/Beyhive turning a blind eye to the fubar priorities being demonstrated by the Carters and turning it into a interracial issue rather than one of class—–the precise reason I started my locks is BECAUSE the hair of my young daughters is so time-consuming, but I still put in the work of washing, styling, moisturizing and maintenance. I can throw my ‘do into a clamp or ponytail, but they can’t. In the case of B & J, especially with the maternal grandmother being a licensed stylist, there is NO excuse for a mother, expecially one with means, to be coiffed to the gods while her child(ren) look like refugees/hostages. ‘Natural’ doesn’t mean NOT. KEPT.
From other commenters: “I don’t think the issue is about blackness. For me, I think all babies are precious and Blue is no exception. My beef was with her parents not combing/styling her hair. Yes, she is natural, as a baby should be, as we all were. The unkempt state of her hair is where the uproar came from. Grooming is part of showing you care for your kids. It was especially upsetting given the energy her mom puts into her appearance. Brush her hair, twist it, add a headband or bows….something! No need to relax it or add extensions. Style her hair. Every time I say this folks get up in arms. And I look at them like hypocrites. If one of your relatives had a baby walking around like that you’d read them from A to Z.”
“I don’t mind if the hair is out once or twice, but Blue’s hair is 95% of the time unkempt. They have enough money to pay someone to keep the child’s hair looking decent. All of this plays into how Blue will learn to appreciate her hair and learn how to take care of it.”
“Beyoncé is being a bitch. She does not want that child to outshine her.”
“We know if we went to target, and we saw a mom with her hair looking good, but the child’s hair was matted, we’d talk about her ass. I just think it borders laziness not to brush or comb out a childs hair. Blue is freaking adorable. An afro ain’t that hard. Matted hair is crazy. I initially thought she was just letting it grow into an afro, but with each pic, it looks matted.”
