The MOC Weekly Rundown, Nov. 5: “Hot Car Mom” Again Facing Charges

Tragic all the way around—-seems like she wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer to begin with, but where the media messed up, IMO, was publicizing the amount she received. It looks as if the family and friends who should’ve helped, INCLUDING THE CHILDREN’S FATHER, showed up, pressed demands on her and spent the cash instead of guiding her to someone who could help set up the fund. I don’t agree with her not meeting the demands, but given her previous actions, Ms. Taylor’s judgement isn’t sound and she shouldn’t have been counted on to fulfill the terms without supervision. As one commenter stated, “He had way too many moochers and users around and obviously this woman from the first had no common sense in preserving the interest and well being of her children. Why was the one who fathered these kids with her in a suite, standing by her when she was in court and getting world attention, but was no where to be found when she needed a baby sitter and care giver for her kids?”

“Shanesha Taylor was one of the many parents charged this year with leaving children in hot cars. In her case, it wasn’t a matter of forgetting the children were there. She left her two sons in the car with the windows cracked about an inch while she went into a Scottsdale, Arizona business for a job interview because she couldn’t find affordable day care.

After she was arrested, her tearful mugshot leaked online. Her story and mugshot tugged at the heartstrings of netizens everywhere. One of those netizens was Amanda Bishop. Bishop created a page on fundraising site YouCaring.com to help what she saw as a homeless single mother who loved her children and was trying to do what was best with the resources she had. Donations piled in quickly, and eventually the fund was over $100,000.

The courts took that fund into consideration, and Taylor struck a deal with the county attorney’s office. Two class-three felony child abuse charges would be dropped if Taylor performed a checklist of tasks. Prime in that list was that use $60,000 of that money to set up a trust fund for her children’s education and child-care expenses. She also had to attend parenting classes. If she didn’t do those, the charges would be reinstated. On Monday, Taylor could not prove to the courts that she had set up that fund. She reportedly told the court that she could set up $35,000 in that fund, and claimed that because of the publicity surrounding her case, she was having trouble finding a job.” (Crime Feed)
