1994 Heavy D – Don’t Get No Better Than This

Back in the days when I was young, this hit from Heavy D was one of my favorites. Does it make me corny to say that I still jam to this song? His rich smooth, melodic voice, crisp enunciation and strong danceable beats laid down by Teddy Riley and Pete Rock are combination that you just don’t hear much anymore.

Dwight Arrington Myers (Heavy D) was born on May 24, 1967 in Jamaica. He became one of the most popular American rappers, record producers, singers, and actors in the 1990s. The former leader of Heavy D & the Boyz, a hip hop group which included G-Whiz (Glen Parrish), “Trouble” T. Roy (Troy Dixon), and Eddie F (born Edward Ferrell). He held starring and/or frequent guest roles in several popular television series including Living Single, Roc, Boston Public and The Tracy Morgan Show.

The group maintained a sizable audience in the United States through most of the 1990s. The five albums the group released were produced by Teddy Riley, Marley Marl, DJ Premier, his cousin Pete Rock and Eddie F.

Heavy D died November 8, 2011  at age 44 from what was later determined to be a blood clot.
